Drexel Heritage Sofa Makeover

I got this sofa, from a neighbor, last summer. It was free and soaked with dog urine. I took off the fabric and cushions and placed them in the trash the day I got it. That was that at the time. I didn’t have the time to do anything else to it. So the frame has been sitting in the garage for about 10 months waiting to be made over.
Now May 2012 I decided I needed to finally tackled this sofa. This sofa is from Drexel Heritage and can cost you an arm and a leg. But mine was free. I had to buy new seat and back cushions and fabric. I bought the 6” seat cushion and 3” back cushion at CC Upholstery Supply in the Design District, here in Dallas, for around $90. My friend Lan had suggested using canvas drop cloth last year so I went to Home Depot and Lowes to check them out. I choose the 9’x12’ canvas from Lowes. It the 10oz quality which is a little thicker than the 8oz. I love the look of the drop cloth. It appears to look like linen, which is the look I was going for. The only thing I wasn’t expecting was that the canvas had three 4’x9’ sections sewn together. It worked fine until I needed to cover the back and there was a seem in the middle of the back so I had to buy a single 4’x9’ drop cloth for $6.
Here’s what the drop cloth looks like…

One last item I wanted to address was the seat cushion. I wanted a more modern feel so incorporated the cushion into the sofa instead of having a removable seat cushion.
Here’s the AFTER!!!
total cost of make over was around $130!!!!
